Whether you’re just starting out or looking to advance your career, our programme pairs you with experienced mentors who will guide you every step of the way from navigating mental well-being challenges to fostering resilience and self-care practices. Our mentors are here to support your well-being and help you thrive in the veterinary field.

Coaching for mentors
To ensure our mentees are effectively supported by skillful mentors, we’re launching dedicated mentor coaching in September 2025 to help mentors grow in their role.
Topics: Managing perfectionism and imposter syndrome, Understanding compassion fatigue, Core mentoring skills and constructive feedback, Self-care and everyday wellbeing, Effective communication and active listening, and Conflict management in mentoring relationships.
Whether you’re helping a young vet find their way or encouraging them to prioritise well-being, our mentor coaching will help you do it better, with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

Common questions
The programme is designed for students and early-career veterinarians in one of the FVE member countries, regardless of which sector you work in.
The time commitment varies based on the needs of the mentee and the availability of the mentor. Generally, mentees can expect to meet with their mentor once or twice a month, with additional communication as needed.
Your mentor will provide personalized guidance, support with career development, advice on mental well-being, and strategies for resilience and self-care. They will be a source of knowledge and encouragement!
No, the Career Mentorship programme is free of charge.
Mentees and mentors will be matched based on geographical and linguistic indicators. The type of career (practitioner, officer, public health, research, industry or education) can also be considered. Mentees choose from suggestions of the available mentors in the region/language.
The mentoring programme is entirely on a voluntary basis. However, you’ll get a wonderful experience, giving valuable insights into the veterinary profession!
